History
The Torch Bearers was formed as a Fellowship in All Souls’ Chapel, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife when a group of ‘like minds’ coordinated by Bro Olufemi Odesanmi assembled for a meeting at his residence at House 1, Road 10B, OAU Senior Staff Quarters on Sunday, March 18th, 1990. Present at the meeting were; Bros Olufemi Odesanmi, Aderemi Adeyemo, Olusanya Adejuyigbe, Adekunle Adetona, Adebayo Adeyemi and Adegoke Adegoroye. The Fellowship was initially established under the name of Young Men Christian Fellowship (YMCF) but the name was later changed to The Torch Bearers, All Souls’ Chapel as proposed by Bro Olufemi Odesanmi. The motto proposed by Bro Adegoke Adegoroye and adopted by the group for the Fellowship was ‘Let Your Light Shine’.
The Fellowship was formally inaugurated during a Consecration Service conducted by the Chaplain, Cannon J.A. Oladunjoye at All Souls’ Chapel, OAU, Ile-Ife on Sunday, August 8th, 1990. The nine members of the Fellowship at Consecration Service were; Bros Olufemi Odesanmi, Adekunle Adetona, Aderemi Adeyemo, Olusanya Adejuyigbe, Adebayo Adeyemi, Adegoke Adegoroye, Simeon Adesina, Taiwo Omobuwajo and Segun Faniran. Since establishment, the Fellowship continues to flourish to the glory of God while members shine in their various spheres of endeavours. As of May 8th, 2020, the Fellowship has 20 regular and 17 distant members.
