Who we are
The fellowship consists of ordained Ministers of Christian religion who are members of All Souls Chapel and are working in, or retired from Obafemi Awolowo University.
They are Ministers whose denominations
a) Are recognized by the Chapel as having practices and beliefs that do not in any way contradict the tenets of the chapel
b) Have national and world-wide spread, recognition and good reputation.
c) Have a history beyond the founding leadership.
d) Have reputable theological institutions for the training of their priests.
History
The fellowship started with the commencement of the chapel, when serving ministers met from time to time, to deliberate on issues affecting the chapel.
Responsibilities of the Fellowship
The fellowship assists the chapel in the following functions:
a) Providing spiritual leadership and guidance to members of the chapel
b) Offering pastoral care to members of the chapel through counselling, administration of the Holy Sacraments etc.
c) Assisting the chaplain through such Christian services as naming ceremonies, wedding ceremonies, funeral services, dedication of buildings, offices and various other prayers.
d) Providing trainings for baptism, confirmation, Bible studiesleaders, lay readers and other church workers.
e) Liaising between various church denominational authorities, secular authorities and the chapel
f) Standing in, for the Chaplain or Assistant Chaplain in the event of absence of the incumbent, due to leave, sickness, travel or vacancy of the position.
g) Assisting in the appointment of new Chaplains and other key officers of the chapel.
h) Participation in decision-making in the Chapel Council through representation
i) Induction of new Chaplains and Assistant Chaplains into the services of the chapel.
j) Monitoring and enhancing the quality of services rendered by church ministers in the chapel.
k) Serving as check and balance on the spiritual propriety of the chapel, in all chapel activities and commitments.
l) Rendering spiritual services to the Obafemi Awolowo Univeristy, in view of the fact that the chapel is the church that is conventionally used by the University for Christian religious services
m) Intercessory services for the church, the state, the nation and the world.
Membership Services
Apart from the chaplain and Assistant Chaplain who are full-time paid staff of the Chapel, all other members are non-full time (NFT) members, rendering their services Pro Bono.
Meetings
The fellowship meets statutorily on the first Monday of every month. It also meets from time to time as situations warrant.
The fellowship engages in Christian spiritual activities, to enhance spiritual growth and development of the Chapel, OAU, Nigeria and the world, for global peace and rectitude.
